Alyssa had her pre-kindergarten physical exam this morning, and when it came time to evaluate how she did on the vision part, her doctor was honest and said that she should probably have her eyes checked by an optometrist. So, I took her to our optometrist, who up until this point has only seen Dan and I for our exams and contact lens prescriptions, and he determined that she is mildly near-sighted and has an astigmatism. Ugh, I feel her on the astigmatism. My right eye is affected by one and I freakin’ hate it (fortunately there are contacts just for astigmatism, and since they’re weighted they stay in quite nicely. This means I don’t have to ruin the look of me in plus size swimwear with glasses, haha).
Oh well. She seems happy. She’s so excited, in fact, that I got treated to a total flounce & huff fest when she realized that she wouldn’t be getting her new glasses today. Oops.
The optometrist gave me a copy of her prescription, which is a good thing because I told Alyssa I’d get her Hello Kitty glasses if she settled for the $9 pink frames at the optometrist’s office (only nine bucks!!!). She agreed. I could shell out $93 for licensed Hello Kitty glasses, but instead I’m going to purchase $15 frames from Zenni Optical and then have an arts & crafts fest with super glue, lacquer, Hello Kitty stickers and rhinestones. Go me.
