Cookies and cupcakes and brownies, oh my

I don’t like to cook, but I love to bake. A quick glance at my Goodies set on Flickr is clear evidence of that. I have a thing for sprinkles especially. I collect tons of holiday sprinkles. I just added several containers and canisters of Christmas sprinkles to my collection, and I can’t wait to start using them on cupcakes, brownies, and on and in (yes, in) cookies!

Last year I gave away baked cookies as small Christmas gifts. I didn’t have time to think about the cold and fantasize about myrtle beach condo rentals, because I was busy baking. This year I’m thinking about buying Mason jars and putting together spiffy layers of dry ingredients, and finishing off the containers with Christmas-themed cellophane or fabric and ribbon. Unfortunately, my creative skills are severely lacking, so I doubt the final product will look much like what I’m picturing in my mind. :/ But hey, I can try!

Alyssa is going to flip!

Alyssa is at Grandmom’s house until tomorrow afternoon, and while she was gone I took the time to make some Hello Kitty cake pops! Prior to this little adventure I have never thought outside the box — literally! I make food from bags, boxes, cans and recipes, and the same certainly goes for cakes, cupcakes, brownies and the like — this is the first time I’ve made something that isn’t initially put together by Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker.

Anyway, for a first-time try, and having to use a tube of black icing instead of an edible black marker (I purchased one, but it didn’t want to write on the surface of the hardened candy melts), I think they came out pretty damn good! (Of course, they might have come out a little better if I wasn’t distracted in between the steps by some writing on drug rehab I had to do, but alas, work does come before play!)

I know Alyssa is going to go nuts when I give them to her. I can’t wait.

Baking time!

So a few days ago I promised Alyssa we would bake cookies. This was Tuesday, I think, when we were at the grocery store and I picked up a bunch of stuff, including Pillsbury sugar cookie dough sheets with purple and yellow frosting packets. Wednesday rolled around and I was really sick with a stomach bug. On Thursday we went out, and while we were out I picked up sprinkles, a bunny shaped cookie cutter and egg shaped cookie cutter with optional Easter themed “stampers” to imprint the dough with, and colored icing/gel. Friday we were also busy.

So today (yesterday now, heh,), Saturday, was the day!
