Ryan very rarely gets sick. He last had a stomach virus when he was eight months old. He’s had a few very minor colds here and there, but overall he is one very healthy kid. Until now. I guess my bragging about my kids’ awesome immune systems have come back to bite me in the ass, because Ryan not only has a stomach virus, but a double ear infection and strep throat. Seriously?! Who gets all of those at once?!

Anyway, we saw the doctor this afternoon, and since we got home at 5:00pm Ryan has been passed out on the sofa. I gave him an initial dose of childrens’ Motrin, Amoxicillin, and an anti-nausea/anti-vomiting suppository (the doctor wanted it in that form to make sure it stayed in his system long enough to take effect), along with a few sips of Gatorade, and he’s been sleeping ever since. He’s due for his next dose of childrens’ Motrin now, the Amoxicillin tomorrow morning, and the anti-nausea/anti-vomiting suppository around 12:00am. Since I assuming he’ll wake up at some point in the night, getting another dose of everything into his system shouldn’t be too difficult.

I hope my little guy gets better soon. I hate to see him feeling so poorly.

Both kids have been sick since last week with a stomach bug. The worst bout was from Tuesday to Wednesday, when Ryan, myself and my husband were all sick with severe vomiting and diarrhea. Since then, my husband got better, I was okay except for a relapse on Sunday, and Alyssa and Ryan are okay, except that every night between when they go to bed and when they wake up they vomit once or twice. We’re doing the BRAT diet and sticking to alternating between water and Pedialyte. I called the doctor, who recommended to keep with the BRAT diet, plenty of fluids and rest, and to let the virus run its course.

Run its course. Easy for him to say. I have done almost thirty loads of laundry since last Monday morning, with most of it being bed sheets, crib bedding, blankets, cloth diapers and towels.

So, how has your week been?

The stomach bug is still hanging around. I was sick all of yesterday, and Alyssa and Ryan are still vomiting on alternating mornings. Doctor says to let it run its course. Oy.
